Process in Creating Technical Documentation Project

This project included explaining the process behind creating a few different types of technical documentation. The types of documentation included an Acceptable Use Policy which required students of the Living Lab to sign in order to confirm compliance when using Living Lab equipment and resources as well as step-by-step guides on how to complete different tasks involving computer imaging, equipment configuration and software use. The project focused on covering the considerations that should be taken when technical documentation is being created such as the type of document that will be made, the audience the document will address as well as considerations on how the document will be stored and who will see it.

I didn’t know what to expect when I signed up for the Living Lab. It has been a long and difficult journey this semester, but I got hands-on experience with Linux. I hoped to cover more networking material, but setting up an intrusion detection system and troubleshooting commands did make this seemingly impossible task for a student with no prior experience more approachable. My time in Living Lab was really beneficial because the software we learned about is used in the real world. I learned additional skills, such as being disciplined on arrival time, trying different methods to solve problems, and asking help from peers. Living Lab was a last-minute choice for me, and now I feel it should be the first choice anyone makes. The hands-on experience I have gained has helped me tremendously. Living Lab has been a great experience for me to learn daily obligations to maintain a healthy network. I’ve learned independent research is a very important process before network testing is conducted. I’ve also learned that you must have a process to monitor packets flowing in and out of the network.
