An Indiana University tech support department had a severely cluttered and non-intuitive organizational unit (OU) structure.  A Living Lab student designed a new OU with a standardized structure and more effective and modular Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to simplify management and navigation.  PowerShell scripts were used to copy a standardized root structure to each department within the customer’s OU, then manual edits were made to each department to fit their needs.  GPOs were linked to more effective places, eliminating the need to modify inheritance in many of the department OUs.  Some GPOs were split into several GPOs to create a more modular set of policies.  The result is a cleaner, more intuitive system. Eventually, each department supported by this client will be moved to the new OU.  The move will happen behind the scenes without disruption of services.
