The IIS Web Server project consisted of two phases, the first phase was to build a Web Server hosted in Window Server 2008. The web server should function as a file server and should have multiple IP addresses on the single NIC. The second phase consisted of deploying a web application through Visual Studio 2010.
The goal of this project is to allow student to gain more experience with Window Server 2008 installation, perform the basic set up and configuration through the initial configuration task (ICT). It also gives student the chance to interact with the Server Manager utility, add roles and features to Window Server 2008 easily. The Student should configure the Server to function as multiple Servers through a single network card.
In addition to the default Web site three additional Web sites folders must be created with different ip addresses. FTP over SSL must be configured and enabled to allow authorized users to manage their assigned web sites remotely in a secure way.
Users and groups with different permissions should be added to allow them to perform their tasks. At the same time student should make sure that no users can gain access to unauthorized files or folders. Users should be able to FTPS to the server using FileZilla, FireFTP add-ons or WinSCP.
During the second phase student should deploy a web application remotely to the Server using Visual Studio 2010. This phase allows student to gain valuable experience with Visual Studio functionality, SQL Server configuration, and ASP.NET application.
