The IUPUI Living Lab has developed a game website for technology majors. Currently, there is one game mode functioning on the website, called Capture the Flag, where a user has to infiltrate a network and gain information to answer the challenges. Each challenge is worth a set amount of points.
Our goal is to expand the website and add a second game mode called Red vs. Blue. In this game mode, users will be assigned to different teams, either the red (attack) team or the blue (defense) team. The blue team will start out with all points, and will be responsible for securing a network. The red team will try to infiltrate that network and find different “flags” that they have hidden; when a flag is found, someone from the red team can answer that challenge and take those points away from the blue team and add them to the red team. As for how teams are chosen, the Admins will assign a role to a user in a specific game on the admin side of the website. If the user has the role of blue, or defense, they will be unable to answer the challenges but still be able to see the score and what challenges have been answered. If the user is assigned the role red, or attack, they will be able to answer challenges for points. Score tracking is featured in each game so teams can track their progress and points earned. When the game expires, the team with the most points wins and there will be on-screen effects to celebrate the winners.
