In order to ensure greater security among the workstations in a pair of computer labs, we are creating a new Windows Server Update Services, or WSUS, server which will have WSUS installed on a Windows Server 2012 virtual machine. This will make for automatic and in sync updates for the programs that are most necessary in order to save disk space. Group policies for updates were created for the entire group of workstations for the purpose of keeping Office 2010 and 2013, Visual Studio 2010 and 2012, Windows 7, ASP.NET Web & Data Frameworks, and Microsoft Security Essentials updated. The purpose is to overall keep these updated with minimal administrative prompting.

We were able to complete the process of putting all clients in one lab onto our WSUS server, and began putting the clients in the other lab on the server as well, as soon as they were imaged and activated correctly. The project was long in the fact of getting the clients to report to the server in order for the updates be pushed out to them. We set up the server to be able to select and approve updates for any particular group. The tool also gives the administrator the ability to run reports and troubleshoot updating roadblocks.
